Through the years... several additions have been made to the website which have shown past and present weather conditions in Okarche, Oklahoma.  Things became a little cluttered.  Now, a bit of organization has struck.  Current conditions - historical data - charts, blogs and summaries - can all be found in this OKARCHE WEATHER ONE STOP.

International Space Station

February 4, 2009 - The image (trail) of the I.S.S. is seen here moving from WNW to SE across the clear, early evening sky near Okarche.  A small plane is also evident approaching from the south and making a U-turn during the two minute image capture.  It appeared that the plane was making a turn in the face of the I.S.S. - despite it being over a million feet lower!.  Gallery.

Storm Chase 2009 is underway...

February 10 - The first big storm day of the year produced several tornadoes in Oklahoma.  Our first storm chase kept us in the Oklahoma City area.  Gallery

Okarche, March snowfall 2.8 inches

March 12, 2009 - Model forecasts the night before picked up on the chance of measurable snowfall in part of central Oklahoma.  In Okarche, we came up with nearly three inches of snow - the most in March since 1995.  I was planning on shooting the blooming red bud trees... but I didn't have any idea that the images would include snow.  Gallery.

Near Full Moon Rising

February 11, 2009 - This credit belongs to Bill Wasinger who called and said if I had a view to the east... I had a big orange moon coming up.  My view from the backyard was perfect... and so was the position of the moon to catch several of the crater shadows on the upper part.  Click on image at left for larger version.

Oklahoma Post-Blizzard

March 28, 2009 - An intense winter storm produced significant snowfall in Oklahoma from late on the 26th to early on the 28th.  I observed 1.6 inches of snow in Okarche - but up to 25 inches of snow fell in the far northwest part of the state.  Gallery.

Storm Chase 2009 - March/April

March 23, 2009 Storm Chase

Severe thunderstorms formed from north central to southwest Oklahoma during the afternoon.  Several of the storms displayed supercell structure.  The two most impressive storms I observed were near Medford and near Mulhall (picture at left).  Gallery.

Meteors, I.S.S., Conjunction

April 21 and 22, 2009 - Several things made sky viewing nice during the early morning hours of the 21st and 22nd.  Gallery

Storm Chase 2009 - May/June
June Success...
The 2009 season won't go down as one of the worst... thanks mostly to a five day stretch of supercell storms from June 11 to June 15.  The tornado at left occurred in Haskell County, Kansas on June 14th.

July Lightning...
The summer Oklahoma lightning season is off and running.  It already has been better than the previous several years with several weeks to go.

August Supercell...
A very impressive supercell storm moved from just southeast of Watonga to near Geary on August 17, 2009.  Gallery.

Christmas Eve Blizzard!
Blizzards in Oklahoma are rare... it's even more rare to get one in the central part of the state.  A very strong storm system brought Oklahoma City to its knees on Christmas Eve.  Snowfall that approached a foot and winds that gusted to over 60 m.p.h. combined to produce a winter storm that will be talked about for a long time to come.  In Okarche, we got the short end of the stick... measuring 2.9 inches of snow and had drifts that exceeded two feet in some areas.   It wasn't what OKC received... but still a storm to remember.  Gallery.

Beautiful Morning Sky Show
January 11, 2010 - The crescent Moon had a close encounter with Antares (just right of Moon in picture) in the southeast sky this morning (click image at left for large version).  From Wikipedia: Antares is a class M supergiant star, with a radius of approximately 800 times that of the sun; if it were placed in the center of our solar system, its outer surface would lie between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.  Located in the Milky Way galaxy... it is considered the sixteenth brightest star in the nighttime sky.  About 600 light-years from our solar system... it has an average magnitude of +1.09.

Winter Storm
January 28 and 29, 2010 - It's unusual to get a winter storm event in Oklahoma that drags out over 36 hours.  Much of Oklahoma saw just that with freezing rain, sleet and some snow all occurring on the 28th... and mostly snow falling on the 29th.  In Okarche... the total for the event was 5.7 inches of frozen precipitation with a melt down of 1.34 inches.  The event allowed us to nearly reach our seasonal average in snowfall with many weeks of winter to go.  Gallery.

Severe Thunderstorms
April 4, 2010 - Late evening storms formed about 50 miles northwest of Okarche and tracked across portions of Blaine, Kingfisher, Major and Garfield Counties before moving into the north central part of the state.  Intense lightning allowed storm observing as if it was daytime - despite being well after sunset.  I also measured 1.65 inch hail four miles north of Loyal.

Texas Panhandle Tornadoes
April 22, 2010 - Severe thunderstorms produced at least 72 tornadoes from April 20 to April 25 / from Colorado to North Carolina.  I caught a couple of the April 22nd tornadoes in the Texas Panhandle - southeast of Groom.

Since 2004, Doug Speheger (National Weather Service Norman Oklahoma) has been keeping detailed records on Oklahoma tornadoes.  Recently, I have taken his data and plotted the confirmed tornadoes.  The maps they are plotted on have been made large to preserve detail (average size is about 1.4 MB).  Links to the maps and Doug's website can be found at the bottom of the Okarche Weather One Stop page.
